Behold is a small oil painting, just 4 by 6 inches, that invites a pause to consider scale and detail beyond our everyday reach. The composition features two celestial bodies—the upper right holds a cratered planet in deep browns, greys, and touches of Sedona Red, its surface textured and rugged. Below, a smaller blue and white moon rests quietly, its craters catching light against the dark mystery of space. Drawing from a photo taken by Artemis astronauts as they orbited the moon, I used light and shadow to carve out volume and depth, emphasizing the physical presence of these distant worlds. This piece reflects a moment of stillness and vastness, where texture and form anchor the immensity of the cosmos within a compact frame.
